There’s something NEW and WILD coming to the Washington County Fair this year!
We’re excited to introduce our Wildlife Corner, presented in partnership with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR).
Stop by Building A each evening of the Fair for a fun, educational look at the wildlife, habitats, and natural resources found right here in Virginia. Fairgoers will have the opportunity to meet and talk with park rangers and wildlife professionals, ask questions, explore interactive displays, and learn more about the animals and ecosystems that surround us every day.
Visitors can get an up-close look at native animal pelts, learn about wildlife and habitat conservation, and discover some of the important work being done to protect Virginia’s natural resources.
The Virginia DWR will also be sharing educational information about Hunter Safety and Aquatic Education, including ways we can safely enjoy the outdoors while helping protect our waterways, aquatic wildlife, and natural habitats for future generations.
Whether you have a child who loves animals, an outdoorsman interested in learning more, or you’re simply curious about what’s living in the woods and waters around us, make sure you add the Wildlife Corner to your Fair plans!

The Wildlife Corner is included with your regular Fair admission, so come explore, ask questions, and discover a little more about the wild side of Virginia at the Washington County Fair!
Table 1 A hands-on display of over 20 native animal pelts that can be found in your own backyard. These pelts provide a personal experience of what these remarkable mammals not only look like, but what they feel like, their actual size, and any other detail that cannot be measured by only seeing the animal from afar. Guests are encouraged to touch the pelts as well as ask a ranger any question about the animals that they can think of.
Table 2 The responsibilities of a ranger are endless. Ranging from cutting down trees with chainsaws to leading kayak tours, handling snakes, and traveling to schools for educational programs—rangers do it all. Come ask a ranger what it takes to have a career in parks. Check out the tools, educational supplements, and more that help keep parks running.
