GENERAL PAGEANT REGULATIONS & INFORMATION

In order to be eligible to participate in this pageant, each contestant must meet the following criteria:

1.        Be a resident of Washington County Virginia;

2.        Be single (never married and without children);

3.        Meet all requirements of registration, sponsorship and/or payment of fees by the deadline, Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 6:00 pm. (Carefully read the following paragraph!!!)

Contestants are required to wear a long or tea-length gown and model throughout the various rounds of the pageant.  Contestants will be judged on natural beauty and appearance, personality (as evidenced by self-introduction and on-stage questions) and modeling ability/ self-confidence.  In an effort to comply more closely with the State competition requirements and enhance the opportunity for our own contestants, Miss Washington County contestants (ages 16-21 only) will be required to participate in an interview process as part of the overall pageant process. The interview competition will be held on Sunday afternoon, Sept.12, the day prior to the pageant.  Interviews will be randomly assigned and will be conducted beginning at 2:00 PM at the Falls Plaza main facility located near the intersection of Russell Rd. and Rt. 19, Porterfield Hwy.  on Sunday afternoon, September 12. This is a very important component in our pageant and will  constitute 33% of the total score utilized in the determination of the 2010 Queen and her court.  Interviews will last for approximately ten (10) minutes and will be judged by a separate panel of independent judges .

Because of the increased need for additional planning, the deadline for applications is Tuesday Aug. 31 at 6:00 PM.  All contestants (and parent or guardian with contestants under the age of eighteen)  will meet at that time at the fairgrounds main bldg. for a question/answer session to prepare each contestant for her respective interview and/or activities.   Entries will be accepted ONLY at that time.   Late entries will not be accepted – please do not ask for time extensions.   COME PREPARED TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED ON Aug. 31 – Each contestant will be photographed at this session!  The photos will be used in our official program.

While Jr. Miss contestants will not participate in the formal interview process,  they are to attend the registration session along with the Miss contestants.  THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR EITHER AGE GROUP!!! We hope to produce a better program for our pageant, and we simply cannot do it by finding out who our contestants are the day before the pageant.  Contestants are to arrive at the Fairgrounds no later than 6:30 on September 13, 2009.  Limited dressing area will be provided.  The pageant portion of the Miss Washington County pageant will immediately follow the Jr. Miss pageant.

Contestants in both divisions are expected to exhibit courtesy above reproach, and will agree to remain through the duration of the events to demonstrate courtesy and respect for the pageant and its contestants.

                Rehearsal/Orientation for Jr. Miss contestants will be held at the Fairgrounds on Sunday Sept. 12 beginning at 2:00 PM.

                Contestants only are admitted free to the Fairgrounds the evening of the pageant, all others are charged regular admission fee.

                Both Queens and their respective Courts  must agree to represent the Fair by riding the Queen’s float in both the Fair parade held in Abingdon on Saturday Sept. 18 as well as in the Abingdon Christmas Parade held in mid November.
